Brook welcomes new Young Trustees to Board

Two new Young Trustees have been appointed to the Brook Board. Clare Taverner and Charlotte Warner will attend their first Brook Board meeting in June 2014.

Clare and Charlotte are the second cohort of Brook Young Trustees, following Dorren Majeed and Colum McGuire who joined the Brook Board in June 2011.

Young Trustee Charlotte Warner said:

“I currently work as a welfare officer at Leeds University Union, which has taught me a lot about the issues with sexual health services. I have also increasingly found how much of a taboo topic sexual health is to many people, and I want to help change this. I hope to contribute my experiences of running sexual health campaigns and working with young people, and hope to gain a more informed knowledge about the issues that young people face with sexual health, relationships and body confidence, helping to change these for the better.”

Young Trustee Clare Taverner said:

“Brook and I share the same passion for ensuring accessible, confidential and impartial sexual health advice for all young people. As a Brook Trustee I hope to contribute a young person’s perspective where it is really needed. I think it’s crucial young people should be involved in every step of the way in Brook – as it is a young person’s charity. Having done international youth work and work within the LGBQT community I hope I can offer a balanced opinion, and represent different communities well.”

Eve Martin, Brook’s Chair, commented:

“I am delighted that Clare and Charlotte will be joining the board. Colum McGuire and Dorren Majeed, our outgoing Young Trustees, have made a huge contribution to Brook's governance and to improving our systems and processes for ensuring young people can contribute effectively at the top table. I know Clare and Charlotte will build on this. Their passion for Brook combined with their experience and skills will be a huge asset and all of us on the board look forward to working with them.”

Naomi Sheppard, Brook’s Head of Participation and Volunteering, added:

“Having young people involved at all levels of Brook is an integral element of what makes us the UK’s leading sexual health charity for under 25s. Charlotte and Clare will be the voice of young people on the Board, and their decisions will carry as much weight as any other Trustee, enabling them to genuinely influence Brook’s future course. They’re both passionate, knowledgeable and totally dedicated to improving young people’s sexual health and wellbeing and I am delighted to see them joining the Board as Young Trustees.”
