Brook statement on increased availability of emergency contraception

In response to the news that the ellaOne emergency contraception will be available over the counter, Brook's Head of Nursing Sue Burchill said:

"Brook welcomes any expansion of the contraception choices available to young people. Our client group may well find the cost of over the counter emergency contraception too much for them, so it's important for all young people to know they are entitled to free contraception through Brook services and through other sexual health clinics, as well as their GP.

"When young people visit Brook for emergency contraception, it's a good opportunity to discuss their contraceptive needs as well as any other issues which may be on their minds, and may be driving risky behaviour. We will also underline the need to use barrier methods such as condoms, in order to protect against sexually transmitted infections."
