Brook comment on Teenage Pregnancy Strategy study in the Lancet

Responding to a study in The Lancet on the successful legacy of the 10-year Teenage Pregnancy Strategy, Helen Marshall, Chief Executive of Brook said:

“The decrease in teenage pregnancy rates in the UK since 1998 is very welcome, and a great deal of credit deservedly goes to the Teenage Pregnancy Strategy with its focus on sex and relationships education, young people friendly contraception and sexual health services, and intensive support for young parents.

“The challenge for local authorities and the third sector now is to continue the TPS’s legacy, working to reduce teenage pregnancy rates even further while providing services for young parents, at a time when public health budgets are facing severe cuts, and with inconsistent provision of vital comprehensive sex and relationships education.”
