"Sex in Class" to be broadcast on Channel 4 - Brook comment

Tonight (6 August 2015) at 9pm, Channel 4 will show Sex in Class, a one-off hour long documentary following Belgian sexologist and United Nations goodwill ambassador for sexual health Goedele Liekens as she teaches a class of Year 11 pupils in the UK about relationships, sex, pleasure, their bodies, and more. Brook's former Chief Executive Simon Blake OBE was interviewed by Liekens for the programme.

Brook's Deputy Chief Executive Jane Hughes said:

"It's great to see Channel 4 raising the issue of the need for comprehensive and frank sex and relationships education, and Goedele Liekens is a brilliant ambassador for the subject, who was a pleasure to work with.

"We're really looking forward to seeing the final programme, and we're sure it will give a boost to the campaign to make sure every young person gets good SRE, which is something that Brook has long supported."

  • In 2014, Brook, the PSHE Association and the Sex Education Forum published the SRE Supplementary Advice, written to give teachers information and advice on the topics missing from the Government's statutory guidance (which was published in 2000). It can be freely downloaded here: Sex and relationships education for the 21st century
