Following the announcement that Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) is to become mandatory in all schools in England, the charities have joined forces to source the best examples of schools-based RSE throughout the UK and present them to policymakers and practitioners to help shape the new curriculum.
Teachers and professionals are invited to nominate successful programmes being delivered to young people in schools through an online nomination form. The best examples will be selected by a panel of young Brook volunteers and will be featured in a report, to showcase high-quality RSE to Government.
FPA Chief Executive Natika Halil said:
“FPA has a proud tradition of showcasing the very best examples of relationships and sex education through our Pamela Sheridan award. We’re pleased to be working with Brook to develop an exciting package of case studies, to guide policymakers ahead of new legislation, which means that RSE will be statutory from 2019.
“This change in law means that the Government will be looking to develop new RSE guidance, and we’re keen to make sure that the decision-makers are aware of the very best programmes, delivered by teachers or external providers. We hope that this will support schools to replicate these great examples across the country, so that all young people can benefit from the high quality, age-appropriate relationships and sex education they deserve”

“So often we hear stories about RSE in schools being inconsistent and poor quality. By launching this campaign we are delighted to give teachers and professionals the opportunity to promote and share their positive examples of RSE with policymakers and help shape the future for young people”.
To nominate your own RSE lesson, or a programme being delivered in your school, complete the online nomination form. Deadline for entries is 31 July 2017.
The best examples will be featured in a report aimed at influencing Government, promoted on the Brook and FPA websites and promoted to the media.
