Brook statement on the Government's response to the 'Life Lessons' report

The House of Commons Education Select Committee published its report, Life Lessons, into personal, social, health and economic (PSHE) education and sex and relationships education (SRE) in February of this year. Brook welcomed the report, calling it a "milestone".

The government's official response, from the Department for Education (DfE), which was published today (16 July) and can be found here.

Jules Hillier, Interim CEO of Brook, said:

"What a mealy mouthed response to a set of important and strong recommendations. I would use the term ‘disappointing’ but it would be foolish to be disappointed yet again by the government’s refusal to provide young people with the support in schools they need.

"Time and time again, young people tell us that the PSHE and SRE they get isn’t good enough. Time and time again, successive governments have refused to listen to them. Brook will continue to work with young people to fill the gaps in their health and education that the government will not, and any young people, parents, schools or professionals working with young people who would like to join us in our mission are welcome to get in touch."
