Brook responds to AGC report - Sex, lives and commissioning II

Responding to the publication of the Advisory Group on Contraception (AGC)’s report Sex, lives and commissioning II, Brook’s Chief Executive Simon Blake OBE said:

“The AGC's report shows clearly the contraceptive and sexual health services that local authorities commission are far from uniform, with many pockets of best practice alongside areas where services are less than adequate, leading to a postcode lottery.

"Evidence from the XES campaign's Unprotected Nation report shows that making investment in sexual health and contraceptive services a priority is the best way to safeguard young people's sexual health - especially important as young people are at higher risk of poorer sexual health outcomes. An independent evaluation of the return on investment delivered by Brook Pennine found that every £1 spent on the service saved the NHS £18.03.

"Brook calls on all local authorities to follow the Department of Health's recommendations in A framework for sexual health improvement in England, to safeguard the health and wellbeing of all our young people, and to continue the successful legacy of the Teenage Pregnancy Strategy.”
